The Naval Historical Foundation can provide solutions for individuals and organizations that are unable to conduct in-person research at the Washington Navy Yard historical repositories. Through a combination of in-house staff and external partners, we are able to provide you with solutions for reproductions of photographs, cruise books, and a limited number of paper documents. Reproduction involves copying documents, not protected by copyright, privacy act or security classification, that are held by the branches of the Naval History and Heritage Command ( NHHC) located at the Washington Navy Yard. At the Navy Yard are cruise books from the Navy Department Library, and photographs from the Photographic Section of the Naval History and Heritage Command. NHHC also has extensive holdings of paper documents, some of which we may be able to reproduce through our partner organizations, information can be found on the Cruise Books and Document Reproduction page.
When making a research request, we ask that you first contact the branch that holds the original photo, cruise book, or document, and obtain a photo number, file number, or document number. This number will be required when making your order.
