U.S. Navy Heritage Mini-Series Video Project

Background:

Every year, the United States Navy strives to recruit, motivate and prepare thousands of young men and women for Navy service. The Navy makes a substantial investment in every recruit’s training, which continues to become more complex and expensive. As they grow in ability, retaining these highly trained individuals is important for the Navy’s future combat readiness. This project enhances Sailors’ overall understanding and appreciation of the Navy’s rich history and heritage, contributing to a sense of teamwork and unit identity. Ultimately, this will help produce better Sailors and leaders.

Mini-Series Availability:

The Mini-Series consists of 16 five-minute video segments, covering subjects from the Battle of Midway to Desert Storm, and profiling important Navy enlisted and officer leaders and heroes. For a complete listing of the segment titles, go to the Naval Historical Center web site at www.history.navy.mil. The Naval Historical Foundation produced these mini-series segments and donated their use to the Navy, where they appear in General Military Training and in Recruit Training Command programs at Great Lakes, IL. Contact the Foundation at the address below for information on how to obtain a DVD copy of the mini-series videos.
