Information on the Naval Historical Foundation's
Photographic Reproduction Service
The Naval Historical Foundation (NHF), a non-profit organization, offers photographic reproduction services for images in the Naval Historical Center's collections. This information pertains primarialy to images found on the On-Line Library of Selected Images. Submit orders using the NHF Photograph Order Form, and costs can be found at the Photograph Price List. Orders may be submitted in person at our Washington Navy Yard address, by telephone (202) 678-4311, by FAX (202) 889-3565, or by e-mail photos@navyhistory.org. or in writing using the NHF Photographic Order Form. . All orders must include payment for the exact amount cited for both the reproductions, shipping/handling, and insurance charges. Payment can be made by Check or Money Order payable to the Naval Historical Foundation in U.S. Dollars, or by VISA, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover credit cards.
Orders must include the NHC Photo Number and the brief description provided at the bottom of each On-Line Library image. Normal reproduction time is two weeks. Faster service is available at additional cost. Please contact us if you need faster service and/or have a specific date the order is needed by.
For reference information regarding images not found in the On-Line Library, two options exist. For brief requests for information, such as those requiring 15 minutes or less to complete, you may contact the Naval Historical Center's Photographic Section directly at (202) 433-2765. For more extensive research requests, Historical Services can provide research services for $30.00 per hour. Please contact us for more information at (202) 678-4311.
Digital scanning services are also available for all images. Rates for scanning images are currently $35 per image plus the cost for any transfer media (disc, CD-ROM, etc.). Higher resolution digital images than those available for download directly from the On-Line Library are also available at the same rates.
Photographic image quality cannot be guaranteed. The Naval Historical Center's original pictures are often old, small, faded, damaged or otherwise substandard. If in doubt about quality needed for publication or other use, please ask before ordering.
