NHHC PHOTO ARCHIVES PHASED RE-OPENING:

The Naval History and Heritage Command’s Photo Archives will be available for limited access research while the photo collection undergoes collections processing and digitization. The Photo Archives Naval Subject Collection (photos generally organized by subject but without official “NH” numbers yet assigned) is available for researchers to visit at the Washington Navy Yard by appointment.  To make arrangements for a visitor for general questions regarding historic Navy photos, please contact photo archivists Lisa Crunk, David Colamaria, or John Roscoe for more information or call 202-433-2765.

While this Photo Archives work is in progress, customers needing historic Navy images (digital or hard copy) have the option of searching the online photo library available at ibiblio.org. If a specific image is located , customers may email the Naval Historical Foundation with the image number from that online photo library to see if the image is available in high resolution in our computer database which is separate from the Photo Archives and therefore available during their collection work.. If we find that the image is not in our digital database, please contact any staff member from the NHHC Photo Archives listed above to determine if there are any other options they can help you with. Customers are also encouraged to check the U.S. Naval Institute’s photo collection at http://photos.usni.org/.
