Details: War of 1812 Themed Beer Tasting The sister bar to the legendary DC landmark Brickskeller is hosting a War of 1812 themed Beer tasting event combining naval history and sample ales from the age of sail. Come down to RFD (Regional Food and Drink) Washington at 810 7th Street NW, (a block north of the Verizon Center – Gallery Place Metro) from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 3rd to hear Liz Slaymaker combine her knowledge of the War of 1812 and her discerning palate as an experienced bartender. Completing a study program at the National Museum of the United States Navy, Ms. Slaymaker researched the foods and ales of the early 19th century for a forthcoming exhibit at the Navy’s flagship museum located at the Washington Navy Yard. In her talk, she will discuss the brewing techniques of the period and then lead the sampling of brews that are available today that are true to that era. Of course the War of 1812 played a significant role in the history of the nation’s capital as much of the city was burned in August 1814. Retired Navy Captain Charles T. Creekman, Executive Director of the Naval Historical Foundation will be on hand to welcome participants and talk about the Foundation’s mission and support of bicentennial commemoration efforts. Along with samples of beer, cheese and bratwurst platters will be served. The cost is $20 per person, payable at the door. Reserve your spot today, RSVP at grog1812@yahoo.com. Cheers!
