OpSail 2012 – Baltimore

June 13, 2012 - June 19, 2012

OpSail2012In 2012, Operation Sail will once again bring the glory of tall ships to the American seaboard to celebrate the bicentennial of our nation anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.

On September 13th, 1814, British troops launched a twenty-five hour long attack on Fort McHenry, the fort guarding a water approach to Baltimore. Despite the intensity of the British assault, Major George Amistead and his men refused to surrender. It was here, “by dawn’s early light,” that Francis Scott Key was inspired to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
