Neptune : The Allied Invasion off Europe and the D-Day Landings, by Craig Symonds –
May 27, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm$10
On Thursday, May 29, the Maryland Historical Society maritime committee will host Craig Symonds, who will be speaking on his new book, Neptune: The Allied Invasion off Europe and the D-Day Landings. Symonds, an emeritus professor of history at the Naval Academy, is both an excellent scholar and a gifted speaker. The venue is the Maryland Historical Society auditorium at 201 West Monument St., Baltimore. Parking is available.
The book-talk nearly coincides with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day assault. We hope to have some 29th Infantry Division veterans in the house. It would be good to have some naval veterans with us as well. Below is the hyperlink to the amazon page for Symonds’ book. The wine and cheese reception prior to the talk begins at 6 pm promptly. The talk will begin at about 6:15 or so. The cost for the event is $10 for members of the Society, and $15 for non-members. The Society would appreciate an RSVP if you plan on attending this event; you may RSVP by phone or electronically through the MdHS website.
In addition, after the talk and book-signing (for those who wish to get an autographed copy of the Symonds’ book), the maritime committee will host a dinner for Professor Symonds and his wife Marylou at the Hamilton Street Club, within easy walking distance of the MdHS. These dinners in the past have been festive and fun events, with a chance to mingle and talk to our speaker at greater length. Dinner per person, including wine, is $45. The Club has very limited space, so an RSVP is essential.
