December 4, 2012 @ 12:00 pm

The U.S. Navy’s campaign against the Barbary pirates is one of the greatest sea stories in naval history. This book tells the story of Commodore Edward Preble and the legendary efforts of “Preble’s Boys” to subdue the pirate leader of Tripoli, who declared war on the United States in 1801. Chipp Reid uses the words of the men in the campaign- Preble, Stephen Decatur, Richard Somers, Charles Stewart, James Lawrence to tell the story. His book offers rare insights into the lives of these early American naval officers, heroes who come to life in this
entertaining history.
