a revitalized waterfront
Not only does the museum have attractions inside the building, but outside visitors can view the USS Barry.
Not only does the museum have attractions inside the building, but outside visitors can view the USS Barry.
When it opens in 2009, the Cold War Gallery will become one of the most exciting locations of a reenergized Anacostia River waterfront, just minutes away from the National Mall, the U.S. Capitol, and the Washington Nationals' new baseball stadium.
By transferring thousands of jobs to the Washington Navy Yard in the late 1990s, the Navy has sparked a rebirth of a section of the city rich with a vibrant heritage. Corporations and government entities such as the Department of Transportation have relocated here and have spurred further development to meet rising residential, commercial, and recreational requirements.
The anticipated opening of the Anacostia Riverwalk will allow easy public access to such attractions as the stadium, new waterfront restaurants and shops, the retired destroyer Barry, and the Cold War Gallery. With annual attendance projected conservatively at 500,000 visitors, the Gallery and its 'flag ship,' the National Museum of the United States Navy, will offer an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
By joining with us in this effort, you can be a part of that experience!
