Visitor Access Policy for National Museum of the United States Navy Naval Support Activity Washington issued a revised policy in 2009 making access to the Navy Museum easier for visitors. Weekday visitors may not drive on the Washington Navy Yard without advance coordination with the museum due to the limitations on parking for Navy workers at the Yard.. Visitors may either take the Metro to the Washington Navy Yard (Green Line) or Eastern Market (Blue/Orange Lines) and then walk the eight blocks to the Washington Navy Yard along M St. SE; or drive to the Navy Yard vicinity and park in one of the many nearby commercial parking lots. The visitors then enter the Navy Yard through the pedistrian gates where they tell security they are visiting the Navy Museum and then show a valid government or state issued identification card such as a drivers license. All guests above the age of 16 must have an individual ID. Any bulky bags (i.e. handbags or backpacks) will be screened at the gate. Any visitor wishing to park on base during the week must contact the Navy Museum at least 24 hours prior to the visit, so parking can be pre-arranged if available. On weekends and holidays, guests may drive onto the Navy Yard. At the gate visitors will state they are visiting the Navy Museum and be prepared to show the Police Officer, if asked, their driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. Guests may then park in the parking lot in front of the Navy Museum. If you have any questions, please contact the Navy Museum at 202-433-6897. |
